UPDATE ON GERALDTON BRIDGE RESTORATION: ADVANCING TO STAGE TWO
The Cassowary Coast Regional Council is pleased to announce the progression to stage two of the Geraldton Bridge project in Innisfail.
Commencing on Monday 8 April, the works will primarily focus on essential bridge maintenance, particularly targeting the expansion joints. This maintenance involves precise attention to the bridge's key structural elements, including the piers and girders, with a critical emphasis on replacing specific arrangements to uphold the bridge's integrity.
The anticipated timeline for this maintenance is approximately three weeks, pending favourable weather conditions and site readiness. To minimise disruption to the local community, work will be conducted at night on Monday to Thursday from 8 to 24 April, 6:00pm to 6:00am. Traffic management measures will be implemented to ensure safe passage for motorists, with the bridge operating under single-lane closure during this period.
While Council strives to minimise inconvenience, we ask residents to plan their journeys accordingly and apologise for any disruption caused during the maintenance work.
Anticipated impacts:
From 8 April 2024 to 24 April 2024 works will be undertaken by primarily utilising a gurney, jackhammer, and cutting equipment. Noise impact will be concentrated earlier in the evening between 6.00pm to 9.00pm. After 9.00 pm the cutting and jackhammering will cease and the installation of the new expansion joints will be undertaken and which will create minimal noise.
