Development Incentives Policy Extended to Support Growth and Investment

Back

Council has extended its Development Incentives Reduction in Infrastructure Charges Policy until 30 June 2026.

The updated policy continues to offer eligible developments up to 100% reduction on infrastructure charges, to support Council’s broader strategy to support sustainable growth, revitalise town centres, and encourage investment across the region.

The policy now also includes developments in Port Hinchinbrook following its recent normalisation.

Mayor Teresa Millwood said the policy was already proving successful in attracting development that contributes to economic growth and local liveability.

“This policy is helping unlock development opportunities that benefit our community,” Mayor Millwood said.

“Since 2014, Council has reduced approximately $6.1 million in infrastructure charges, helping to deliver over $42 million in completed construction and another $93 million in the pipeline.

“That’s real investment creating jobs, new homes, and new services for our residents.

“At this stage, the policy has only been extended for 12 months, so if you’re considering developing in the Cassowary Coast and want to take advantage of these incentives, I strongly encourage you to contact Council’s Planning and Economic Development Team sooner rather than later.”

The policy aligns with key goals in Council’s Corporate Plan to:

  • Promote responsible and sustainable development
  • Encourage diverse and affordable housing
  • Activate town centres
  • Drive local investment and job creation

“We’re proactively supporting development that brings long-term social and economic benefits to the region,” said Mayor Millwood.

“This isn’t about giving money away; it’s about strategic incentives that generate much greater returns for our communities.”
