Foxtail Cabins Set for Removal

Back

Council is pleased to announce progress in the removal of the cabins from Foxtail Avenue.

During this year’s flood event, structures from this property caused significant damage, dislodging several cabins, knocking down fences, and resulting in debris being carried into One Mile Creek. With agreement with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), Council has commenced a project to remove all structures, eliminating the risk of similar incidents in future flood events.

This initiative has been made possible through funding from the Community Relief Fund, part of a disaster recovery package supported by the Australian and Queensland Governments.

The sale of the cabins, which includes a substantial bond to ensure their proper removal, is now in its final stages. Community interest in the Expression of Interest (EOI) process was overwhelming, and Council is pleased with the outcome.

The process has required close collaboration between three levels of government and a regulatory body. This coordinated effort ensures that the issue is addressed responsibly, without placing the financial burden on local ratepayers.
