Controlled Burns Program

Back

Cassowary Coast Regional Council will commence controlled burns across the region between May and October to prevent the spread of bush fires this dry season.

Controlled burns will be conducted as part of the Cassowary Coast Fire Management Plan 2022.

Please check back for updates to the controlled burn schedule as the year progresses.

2022 Controlled Burns:

Cassowary Coast Regional Council’s 2022 controlled burn program will commence in May as part of the Cassowary Coast Fire Management Plan 2022.

Controlled (hazard reduction) burns are conducted in partnership with various organisations, depending on the burn location. These organisations include:

  • Queensland Fire and Emergency Services
  • Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service
  • Girringun Rangers
  • HQ Plantations
  • Defence
  • Department of Resources.

Controlled burns prevent the spread of bushfires by reducing the build-up of flammable fuel loads such as leaf litter, grasses, and shrubs.

All controlled burns will be conducted pending weather conditions.

Residents with medical conditions that may be affected by smoke from grass fires should take precautions.
