UPDATE of Scheduled Works: Beach Nourishment Activities at South Mission Beach

Back

Council will be re-commencing sand nourishment work at South Mission Beach from 7am, Monday 20 May 2024.

**Original Notice published 22 February 2024**

Council will be undertaking Beach Nourishment works at South Mission Beach to replenish sand and rehabilitate erosion from Monday 26 February.

Coastal nourishment works are a priority action that is identified in Council's Coastal Hazard Adaptation Strategy (CHAS), funded by the Queensland Government's QCoast2100 Program. The program aims to enhance the long-term resilience and sustainability of coastal communities and assets by planning for potential impacts like rising sea levels and coastal hazards across Queensland's coastline.

Works will consist of relocating sand sourced from Tully River to a 700m section of beach at Kennedy Esplanade, between Jackey Jackey Street and Owen Street. To ensure public safety, beach access will be limited around the works site when nourishment activities are taking place.
